Green Impact

Green Impact for Health

  • We are pleased to announce that Minchinhampton Surgery has now been awarded a “Bronze” certificate by the Green Impact for Health initiative in November 2023. The initiative has helped our practice become more environmentally friendly, introduced sustainable practices, and reduced our carbon emissions and plastic waste.
  • For more information about this scheme, please visit the Greener Practice website

Why is this needed?

  • Climate change poses a major threat to our health as well as our planet – we are currently experiencing a climate emergency. The environment is changing, that change is accelerating, and this has direct and immediate consequences for our patients, the public and the NHS.
  • For more information about the work being done by the NHS to become greener, visit the NHS website.

Green travel

  • As set out in the second cycling and walking investment strategy (CWIS2), the UK Government wants walking, wheeling and cycling to be the natural first choice for shorter journeys – as these are the least carbon-intensive ways to travel.
  • We encourage patients wherever possible to use active travel (a travel mode that involves a level of activity), such as walking or cycling, when travelling to the surgery
  • For patients that may find it difficult to make their own way to the surgery, our Patient Participation Group (PPG) runs a Volunteer Transport Scheme – which offers friendly & cheap patient transport to the surgery. For more information, please visit the PPG section of our website
  • Alternatively, please visit the Gloucestershire County Council website for information (including bus timetables) on using public transport to get to the surgery
